PRETTY IN PINK

There must be a shortage of pink clothing at the moment as all the little girls I’ve had to photograph seem to love this colour.  Great for me though as it photographs beautifully.  We had planned to go to the wheat field  I did a shoot in on Saturday but as we arrived we saw the farmer busy cutting it all and turning into bales!  Little spikey pieces of left over wheat don’t go very well against delicate little legs, so off we went to a nearby field.  Mum brought along some bits and pieces to play with which always adds a little extra to the picture and we captured some lovely bright images with lots of green that she really wanted for her new home that’s being built…

ON LOCATION IN SUSSEX

Does it get any better than this?   I found a gorgeous location near to me that I had been wanting to try out for ages and then along comes a wonderful family who say – yes we love the idea, lets do it!  The results speak for themselves and although I could blog just about everything we did, I know that these are the shots mum and dad would like to see of their gorgeous girls in their sneak peak.  I had such a wonderful afternoon – girls you were just great to photograph (I adore your hair!) and thanks for the cup cake, which definitely kept me going :-)

IN THE GARDEN

This little girl was a joy – only 18 months old and with her fluffy blonde hair reminded me so much of my daughter at this age. I love photographs of children with bare feet –  she had only just started wearing shoes two days ago but seemed more than happy to go without them. Although we got some lovely photos of her with gorgeous little jeans on, looking very trendy, there is something rather lovely about a little girl in a traditional dress…

A BEAUTIFUL BABY BOY

Do you recognise this lovely couple from the maternity photographs I took in May?  Just look what arrived 5 weeks ago – the most beautiful baby boy. This adorable  little man has turned their lives around completely as only a baby can.  Despite a little accident against daddy’s shirt (opps!) he was just a complete star and stayed awake for such a long time.  However after  quick feed he soon settled down for a little snooze and we got those beautiful angelic shots that melt your heart.  Many congratulations to you both, he is just amazing.

FAMILY PORTRAIT SESSION

The rain held  (what happened to summer?) and we headed off for a family portrait session.  Despite a nasty wasp sting at the beginning of the shoot the children and mum and dad of course, were brilliant. However, star prize had to go the their little girl who is probably one of the cutest babies I have had to photograph.  We grabbed a wicker chair from Elivira’s Cafe and she just looked right at home, posing for the camera – she’s going to break some hearts in the future!  Here’s a quick sneak peak.

SUMMER FUN

I was asked to take some family photographs for a lovely lady who, together with her business partner,  runs the  fantastic modern kids boutique company Nubie.  We grabbed some great interactive shots underneath their apple trees – the only shade available in the 30 degree heat!  The kids were brilliant and despite the fact that we were all melting we a lot of fun..

Birthday gift.

I was recently asked to help out my fellow photographer and friend Charlie Johnson with an idea he had for a present for his wife’s “significant” birthday.  As you can see below that involved taking fab pictures of Charlie and his two gorgeous boys  running, jumping and rolling around in a field of buttercups.   I’m not sure who enjoyed it the most, Charlie or the boys but I left behind two over excited little boys who were sworn to secrecy and an exhausted  dad desperate for the nearest glass of wine :-)  All the images were presented in a gorgeous Queensberry album much to the delight of his lovely wife Fleur  and needless to say, lots of brownie points were earned that day for Charlie.

Family photographs to treasure.

Over the weekend I was invited to photograph this great family.  Clients wanting informal pictures of them having fun together is my idea of a great photoshoot and it’s definitely those sort of photographs that memories are made of.   I’m not sure whether it was his Irish heritage or whether he was just a wonderfully gifted storyteller but this dad had his little girl in stitches acting and recounting the story of Cinderella.  As you can see in the picture below, she took great delight in turning him into a pumpkin with the wave of her pink marabou feathered wand.  As for her little brother, he was just a total cutie and is obviously desperate to be able to join in when he’s big enough.  Thank you all for a great morning :-)

Annabel Williams Photography Awards 2009

I’m a little late with blogging on this subject but a couple of weeks ago I was invited to the Getty Image Gallery in London to receive my prize for Best Portrait Album in the Annabel Williams Photography Awards 2009.    The awards are held bi-annually and entries were received from professional photographers from around the world. Judges included photography industry experts including Queensberry Albums and Canon UK as well as Annabel herself.

The judges kindly had the following to say…

‘Sarah’s portrait album demonstrated blindingly good photography, executed with total assurance of vision, composition and skill.  She’s used extraordinarily good cropping and a wonderful range of shots.   Fantastic, simple and powerful design.’

I was totally thrilled to win and it was great to catch up with some old faces as well as meet some amazing new photographers.  The following images are courtesy of  Jo at Shoot-Lifestyle, who deservedly won Best Wedding Album.  In the pictures you can see (L to R) Simon & Jo (Shoot-Lifestyle), Gill Maheu – runner up Best Portrait Album, who came all the way from Geneva and John Archibald who came runner up in the Best Children’s image – my favourite image from the entire competition.  It was great to meet you all, please keep in touch.

Family Photoshoot at Borde Hill Gardens

A great photoshoot with this lovely family.  They brought along lots of gorgeous clothes for the kids to wear including this lovely tutu and pink shoe combo, which I totally fell in love with and made for some great photography.  Getting “the family” shot proved a little difficult but as soon as the kids were on their parent’s shoulders lots of hair pulling ensued and although mum and dad no doubt have bald patches as a result, I just loved the shot!
